Following are a few of the voices from our gathering on June 3 … First Voice Elsewhere the river is still a river, though named differently, say, Slug River, River of Faces, or Thursday River. The rich sloops and galliots on Thursday River rolling like plums in the water carry nothing in particular. Nothing they carry is particular (milkweeds, some and other hours, weather reports, news…). The Thursday River bisects this, what is, this that is I mean, into the lands called “Elsewhere” and “Where Else?” where they sing about the Great Central River, coaxing their skittish warships into the water. The water is like chance, in that the shapes it takes show only our own desires. Waters I’ll name “Thursday” and Thursday River in turn bestows upon me the name of names. If it gives it gives the gift of taking. If it takes it’s by giving the gift of giving. Elsewhere, we have always boarded the rusting sloops of Thursday River. We have always hailed from the land of Where Else?
